1920 - Hydro plants generate 25 percent of the electrical power requirements of the United States.
1933 - Hydro-power comes to the forefront with the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
1940 - Hydro plants offer a whopping forty percent of all electrical energy produced in the United States.
2003 - At the turn of the century, hydro-power has lost much of its allure. Population growth results in power demands so high that hydro-power isn't viewed as a fix.
Environmental issues also trigger a slow down. Only ten percent of the electrical energy within the United States is produced by hydro-power.
