Learning About Responsibilities Of Certified Nurse Assistant?
If you have ever thought you may want to establish a career in the health-related industry, then you no doubt know about doctors, nurses, psychologists and the like. If you are really gun-ho on being a medical professional, then you know you have to start from the bottom, and work your way up.
That means you will have to become a licensed CNA, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Now I'm certain if you have done your due diligence you already know the criteria for being a CNA, the licensing fees, the courses you need to go to, the standards you need to follow etc. There is a seemingly endless amount of info out there, and it can be challenging sometimes to get what you want or need.
Nevertheless, in the pages upon pages of information you have looked through, you perhaps did not find the most pertinent information on being a CNA.. Which is.. What actually are the duties of the CNA?
For novices, CNA's are the lowest rank of the medical profession. This does NOT mean they are the least important! Instead, during your time as a CNA you will give much needed assistants to the doctors and nurses above you, to ensure that everything can run smoothly. If not as a result of the hard work of CNAs in the country, numerous nursing homes, and other assisted living facilities, would definitely not be possible, and many elderly people would be with no recourse, and no one to take care of them and ensure they were alright. CNAs are also found in our schools as acting nurses, assisting our children with their wounds.
The real duties of a CNA will differ greatly from state to state, but there is an overall general outline you are expected to follow. You can assume that during your time as a CNA you will be responsible for the following things:
Everyday Patient Care:
Your first and key duty as a CNA, is the day to day care of patients under your service. This will consist of, but may not be limited to, these specific tasks; feeding the patient, preparing food selection for the patient, having the patient dressed in the morning and undressed at nighttime, replacing the bedpan for the patient, aiding the patient in showering, or arranging to go out on a trip, preparing exercise programs, executing exercise programs, taking the vital indications of the patient, and even measuring out and giving patients their prescription drugs (this last one will vary considerably on the state you are in and the specifications you needed to become a CNA initially. )
Record Keeping:
The next most important responsibility you will have as a CNA is keeping proper records and files. You must stick to the guidelines provided to you during training, so that the doctor, nurses, and other CNAs can properly look after the patient once your shift is finished and it is time for you to go home.
